Founder & President
Born in Connecticut in the mid-1970s, Christopher Brisson began his journey in Eastern CT, where he was born and raised by a single mother in a small low-income housing development. During this time, he cultivated many foundational skills that allowed him to progressively do more for others in later years when his career began to chart a course of service to others in need. In 1998, Christopher’s uncle, whom he was very close to, fell from a building and sustained a traumatic brain injury. Christopher watched as this man he knew so well changed so dramatically. He saw the burden on his family and the lack of education and supports available to him and his family. This caused him to become a man on a mission.
Christopher started working with families in need of assistance through the Department of Social Services as an independent private provider, caring for individuals with brain injuries living in the community. He worked diligently to find new and creative ways to ensure that all those living with challenges could find the proper resources to enrich their quality of life and independence.
He soon became a father to two boys. One of his sons was diagnosed with special needs very early on. Through learning to help his son, Christopher developed an even deeper and unique understanding of the dynamics involved in having a loved one to care for in the community, and the very important struggle to not see them placed in an institutional setting. He found that with proper support and quality programming, families could see their loved ones live independent lives. He gave hope to families that their loved ones could live on their own, find competitive work, and live fulfilling lives as members of their communities.
After a decade of working independently on a small scale, Christopher witnessed common problems and spoke with countless families struggling with unsatisfactory workers, a lack of communication, and a lack of individualized programming that addressed the specific needs of their loved ones. Because of this, he was determined to offer better services to our community’s disabled population and was encouraged by the many he helped to branch out and mold his unique program into a business model with the hopes of reaching many more battling the same difficulties. In 2006, Christopher opened The Supported Living Group (SLG). He designed a philosophy and mission statement that embodied his belief and understanding of how programming should be facilitated in a person-centered manner with the best training and support that would bring a new standard to the industry as a whole.
Christopher has assembled an incredible supporting cast of administrators, middle management, and direct care workers who share his views and facilitate the company’s philosophies. Over the past 11 years, The Supported Living Group has been seen by many to be a pioneer, setting a higher standard for the care and rehabilitation of our community’s most vulnerable population. The services developed and offered by The Supported Living Group assist consumers with housing, employment, education, vocational rehabilitation, social development, and recreational opportunities throughout the state.
Christopher sees to it that every staff member of The Supported Living Group, himself included, spends one-to-one time with all consumers to ensure that the quality of care provided offers each individual hope and fulfillment in the path of their choosing.
Christopher is currently attending Charis Bible College, studying divinity, and has hopes to become ordained in the ministry in the near future. As for today, he sees the responsibility of caring for those who struggle to learn to be successful living with a disability as his mission and ministry.
