Gerry has been providing human services to individuals with a variety of support needs for over three decades. Gerry’s career began in 1989 after he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in psychology. Gerry also served in the CT National Guard Army with an Honorable Discharge.
Gerry’s professional career began in the mental health field as a counselor where he provided residential and independent living services to those struggling with mental illness. He was committed to assisting individuals diagnosed with mental health needs to live successfully in the community, increase their quality of life, and achieve their treatment goals. During this period, Gerry also cemented his commitment to putting the person before the disability by employing a person-centered philosophy, instilling hope, and treating all people with dignity and respect.
Gerry’s career then expanded to encompass services for those with developmental issues, homelessness, substance abuse, economic disadvantages, youth in care, and acquired brain injuries. Through outreach, engagement, and rapport building, Gerry has successfully been able to assist individuals to engage in treatment, secure independent housing, and competitive employment, maximize their independence, and achieve their person-centered goals.
Gerry has also enjoyed developing a variety of partnerships with DMHAS, DCF, DOL, BRS, BESB, DDS, DSS, and other funding sources to achieve positive outcomes for individuals receiving their services. Gerry’s passion for teaching and safety led to his developing and implementing curriculums for a myriad of topics including, cultural competency, active treatment, goal planning, and emergency responses.
